New Product Development – that might sound like a big word to a third-grader and it is so boring, but it is a very happy and fun way to create new things. At Swords Precision, we use what is termed as prototypes. A prototype is simply a mock up of our designs and allows us to validate and iterate on our assumptions before we build the final product. Then we can be sure that what we create is great!
Through prototyping, we create enhanced solutions for products they will love on the user end. As we test different designs for our prototypes, we learn what works well and what doesn’t at all. With each prototype we build, we are one step closer to delivering the ultimate product that will benefit all of us. And they also understand what our customers think about the ideas we believe in! Presenting them our prototypes means we also have the luxury of listening to their opinions and feedback. And then we helped improve our own product according to what they told us.
The power of prototyping is that we get to feel the product in the real life. No looking through pictures or drawings, we touch and feel the creation. Getting our hands dirty like this allows us to make better-informed decisions about how we want our product to look. It also helps to evaluate whether our product is safe for deployment and behaves in the expected manner. When we are able to see and feel the product, we can catch any issues before it hits the stores.
Next Idea Elaboration:→ At Swords precision, we like to think of new ideas! The Prototyping ProcessThe majority of the process involves prototyping as prototyping pushes us to think of innovative and original methods to approach tasks. We view an idea differently when we can hold it in our hands. So that gives us even more ideas to improve the product! Prototyping is a bit of an imaginary playground for us. It gives permission to experiment in whatever way we want without the fear of a misstep. We can try different designs and find out what works better.
Now, we know that sometimes we have a pretty good idea, but we are not sure if it will work in reality as expected. This is where prototyping fits in! Prototyping allows us to validate our ideas prior to investing too much in a final product. This is important because it saves both time and money. Something we can address in the prototyping phase that is a fraction of the cost than what it would take to make something that is destined to fail. It also helps us ensure that the products we create are suited to our customers' needs and preferences.
Using prototypes helps us incredibly fast deliver products than what we would be able to do if we directly approach toward the final product. Rather than investing in time and money into trying to create an ideal end product the first time around, we can improve upon our prototype as much as we need to until it is perfect. And this can save money and time in long terms. Getting out in front of issues gives us the opportunity to make changes early to avoid fires and problems later on.
